Precious Pomander Flower Girl Balls

I fell in love with these the first time I saw them on Pinterest. As we looked for ideas for the recent wedding I started finding more and more. These flower girl balls, apparently called pomander balls, are too precious. How technical! Thanks http://www.leeforrestdesign.com for the inspiration. Now you can recreate these fresh flower beauties with some faux flowers and coupons!

Here’s what you need:

Faux Flowers (Make sure to shop during the sales or stock up on coupons. These can get expensive.)
Hot Glue (Loads and loads of this stuff.)
Styrofoam Ball (Your base, choose size according to the size of your flower girls.)
Ribbon (I used the wedding colors, which are perfectly contrasting.)
Pins (This will help keep your ribbons and heavy flowers in place.)

Step 1

Start by getting to know the flower girls who’ll be in the wedding. You’ll need to take their size into consideration. This will be important in making your pomander ball, the ribbon and the size of the styrofoam base. We had three cuties, two eight year olds and one four year old. For the youngest I chose a 4” base and the others I chose a 6” base.

After you have all your materials, get your ribbon ready! Once again you’ll want to think about how far the pomander ball should dangle by the girl’s side. I’d suggest an 20-18” piece, you can always adjust when you attach your ribbon to the base. Do this by layering your ribbon and attaching them to the ball with glue and pins.

Step 2

Coordinate your flowers with those used in the wedding bouquets. I focused on sunflowers and purple zinnias. Group your flowers so they’re alternating, you don’t want all of the same ones together. Start at the top of the ball where you attached your ribbons. Work your way down, using hot glue and pins where necessary. A must for those heavy sunflowers.

Step 3

Get all flowers in place, you’ll have a few gaps. Fill those gaps so all of the white styrofoam is covered up, don’t want everyone seeing a big white spot walking down the aisle!

Not to mention…they’re little girl proof. A real flower pomander would never withhold being tossed, thrown, and smashed around.
